Every garden here begins with what the site already has: its soil, sun, slope, views and the native plant communities around it. The design works with those, so the garden settles in, needs less water and gives back to birds and pollinators.

Concept landscape design
Front yard, back yard or the whole property, from site visit to a final package with a full plant list and planting notes.
Native and pollinator gardens
Gardens built around California natives that feed bees, butterflies and birds.
Lawn replacement
A lower-water landscape that still feels green and usable.
Rain gardens
Shallow planted basins that catch runoff from roofs and patios and let it soak in, planted with natives that handle wet winters and dry summers. I design the layout and planting; any grading or drainage engineering goes to a licensed professional.
Site consultation
A paid visit of up to 2 hours to walk the property and talk through ideas before committing to a design.
3D visualization
Rendered views of your approved design, so you can see the garden before it is built.
Design only. Your drawings are ready for any licensed landscape contractor to price and install.

Plants that belong here ask less of you.
Once established, California natives get by on little summer water and little or no fertilizer, and they feed the bees, butterflies and birds that live here.

How a project works
Site visit
I walk the property with you and measure what matters.
Base plan
Your yard drawn to scale, from your plot plan and the visit.
Concept plan
The layout, planting and materials, drawn as one idea.
Review together
We walk through the concept and you share first reactions.
One revision round
Your comments, gathered in one list, folded into the plan.
Final package
Revised plan, plant list with sizes and quantities, and planting notes.
Most concept designs take about 6 to 8 weeks from the site visit to the final package.

Andrew Normand
I'm a landscape designer who has lived in the Temecula Valley for 26 years. I started Northshadow to design gardens that fit this place: drought-tolerant, full of life, and built on native plants that belong here.
I'm active in the local native plant community. I'm a landscape designer, not a licensed landscape architect, and Northshadow does not install. I design, and your contractor builds.

Good to know
Are you a landscape architect?
No. I'm a landscape designer. California allows landscape designers to prepare concept designs and planting plans for homes. Projects that need grading, drainage or construction documents go to a licensed landscape architect or engineer, and I'll tell you if yours does.
Do you install the garden?
No. Northshadow is design only. You get drawings and a plant list that any licensed landscape contractor can price and build.
How much does a design cost?
Each project gets a flat design fee, quoted after a short call and a look at your property. The fee depends on the size of the area and what you want designed.
Do you only use native plants?
Mostly. I lead with California natives and add climate-suited plants where they serve the design, your taste or your budget.
Can I see the design in 3D?
Yes, as an optional add-on. Rendered views show the approved design so you can picture it before you build.
